The Daily ONCE (April 17, 2007)

I am going to try something new here. I listen to my IPOD on shuffle in the morning on the way to work. So I am going to report back to you the results of the first five tracks I listen to each morning. Enjoy!!

#1

Album : Tropicalia – A Brazilian Revolution in Sound
Artist : Caetano Veloso
Song : Tropicalia

This song is pretty darn cool. Has a cool flow, with some lyrics that I do not understand because it is in Brazillian. Any song off of that album is great. This song is a perfect way to start the drive to work with the sun peaking over the horizon.

#2

Album : Forget About It
Artist : Alison Krauss
Song : Maybe

I always enjoy Alison Krauss. She has a voice that can put you to sleep with it's gentle ebb and flow. Here we have a great track. This song finds her keeping her bluegrass spirit down and concentrating more on making a pop track. About 60 seconds into the song we get some beautiful steel guitar with ambient keyboard work. This is her without Union Station backing her. The drive to work is just getting better.

#3

Album : We Are The Fox & The Pony EP
Artist : Lian Ray
Song : We Are The Fox & The Pony (Original Demo)

This dude really can carry a melody. A sad song about love that ended. Simple as it can get with the plucking guitar and his remorseful lyrics make this song the third track in a row that is helping the sun rise with gentle ease.

#4

Album : Reflection Eternal - Train of Thought
Artist : Talib Kweli and Hi Tek
Song : Good Mourning

Feeling down? Let Talib and Hi Tek tell you why you have reasons to look up. "Embrace the light, your only scared to die when you aren't living right". It is a good morning!

#5

Album : Louden Up Now
Artist : !!!
Song : Shitscheissemerde (Part 2)

One of those great songs that builds slowly from a thumping bass to a hyped up version of itself. These guys know how to work the dance rock scene. Touches of jazz influences with funk drip from this track. About to pull up at work, and this is the perfect song to end the ride with.

Please read this in an "I told you so" tone:

Guess who Allison is covering with the song “Maybe?” None other than Chris Gains!
