Twilight Singers - Teenage Wristband

Teenage Wristband

This is my favorite band of the past 5 or 6 years. If you aren't sure who The Twilight Singers are it is ok. It is never too late to enter the world of Greg Dulli. He was the singer for Afghan Whigs. Which is my all time favorite band ever! After Afghan Whigs disbanded in 2000 he created this band.

Dulli is a sleazy mastermind of the genre. He snakes in and out of songs like a shadow letting his smoking vocals and ever revolving cast of performers tell the stories you love to hear. His newest album "Powder Burns" is constantly being hailed as one of the best albums of 2006. Look it up if you don't believe me! Fans of Denis Leary's "Rescue Me" might recognize some of the songs because a couple of have been played at pivitol plot points in the show.

Lately the band has been joined by Mark Lanegan who you might remember from the late 80's and early 90's band Screaming Trees which he fronted. And later on he helped out with Queens of the Stone Age. With this video we have Dulli and the gang (including Steve Myers of Mighty Fine on backup) singing Teenage Wristband from their album Blackberry Belle.

The Go! Team - Bottle Rocket (Live) \ Ladyflash

No other album this year, and I mean it, as made me feel as good as this one. I put it on and at just over 30 minutes long it feels like the shortest album in the world (and that's a good thing!). This album sounds like they got wired on Red Bull, grabbed every instrument they could find and then watched a marathon of 1970's television shows. But that doesn't mean their sound is dated! It is as fresh as you need it to be. The album will keep your head and feet moving until it is over and you wish there was more. Luckily we can look forward to a new album in this next year. I usually only put one video up, but this band is too cool! So I have put not only a live video of "Bottle Rocket" up, I also have included their video for "LadyFlash". Trust me you will not be disapointed!

The Go! Team are a British, Brighton-based six piece band (with two drummers) whose songs are a mixture of action theme songs, cheerleader chants, guitars and early hip-hop, with a hint of '70s funk. Their songs are a mix of live instrumentation and samples from various sources.

The Go! Team is split 50/50 by gender, with a female frontwoman (Ninja), drummer (Taylor), and multi-instrumentalist (Kaori Tsuchida, who replaced Steidinger in Autumn 2005). Initially The Go! Team was ostensibly a solo project for documentary film director Parton, whose debut release was the Get It Together EP, released in 2000 by Leicester-based Pickled Egg Records. This received airplay from legendary DJ John Peel, but, following signing to indie label Memphis Industries, it would be another three years before their next release, the Junior Kickstart EP in 2003.

Ok Go - On Treadmills!

I am not sure if I like this band yet. I have listened to them and they do sound like something that might grow on me. But I am just not sure yet. So I can't in good conscience recommend them to you yet. But what I can recommend is this video. If you go to youtube you can find that this band likes to choregraph themselves in every video. But this has got to be the coolest thing that I have seen on treadmills in a long time! So here is the band Ok Go showing us some fancy treadmill footwork!

Justin Timberlake's Christmas Present To You

Ok this contains very little artistic value to it other than it is Justin Timberlake and Saturday Night Live and yet another reason why if you aren't watching Saturday Night Live then you are missing out!!

Dan the Automator

Ok where do we start with this guy? if you don't know him yet... what is wrong with you? I close my eyes and think of my favorite albums of all times.

*Bombay the Hard Way: Guns, Cars and Sitars (with DJ Shadow), a great collection of remixed and reinvented Bollywood music.
*Bombay the Hard Way: Electric Vindaloo (with DJ Kid Koala)
*The Handsome Boy Modeling School which featured so many people I cant even pick a place to start. Just pick some singer from anyone you like and they were in one of their songs.
*Deltron 3030, a set of songs telling about the future and the rule of the computers and their viruses. And it featured none other than Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Kid Koala!
*Gorillaz self titled debut which was hand crafted by him and Damon Albarn.
*Lovage - Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By which was a nasty but beautiful set of songs by Mike Patton and Jennifer Charles (if you don't know where to start grab this one it will hook you!)
*Head Automatica's first album Decadence, which features Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw
*Peeping Tom, the long awaited solo album from Faith No More alumni Mike Patton.

I mean seriously folks! Do I need to continue? The man is a genius and has worked with everyone from Mars Volta to Jack Johnson and Deftones to Mos Def! He knows no musical boundaries. So I could put a video of his newest single off his album NBA2K7 featuring The Hieroglyphics. But I told you if you didnt know who he was then start with the Lovage. This collection of love songs were sung by Faith No More's Mike Patton and Elysian Fields singer Jennifer Charles. So here is Lovage with "Book of the Month"!

Regina Spektor

With an usual accent and a tick tock rhythm to her vocals she is the freshest thing to come around since Tori Amos. And the best single since "Cornflake Girl". She isn't afraid to let us see her inner feelings. And that honesty translates into a musicical flow that follows your footsteps throughtout your entire day. Oh she just breaks me har, har, har, har, har, heart!

Regina Spektor (Russian: Регина Спектор) (born February 18, 1980) is a Russian-born American singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered on New York City's East Village.

Spektor was born in Moscow, Russia, Soviet Union to a musical family. Her father, a photographer, was also an amateur violinist, and her mother was a music professor in a Russian conservatory; she now teaches at a public elementary school in Mount Vernon, New York. Her surname, Spektor, is derived from the Russian инспектор ("inspector"). (Jews who registered as inspectors with the Russian government received a favored status with respect to travel.)

Spektor studied classical piano from the age of six, and was also exposed to the music of rock and roll bands such as The Beatles, Queen, and The Moody Blues by her father, who obtained such recordings in Eastern Europe and traded cassettes with friends in the Soviet Union. The family left the Soviet Union in 1989, when Regina was nine, during the period of Perestroika when Jewish citizens were permitted to emigrate.[1] Traveling first to Austria and then Italy, they finally settled in the Bronx, New York.

TV On the Radio

TV On the Radio is a very unique band in the sense that they incorporate free jazz, a cappella/doo-wop, trip-hop and electro into their music. Hailing from Brooklyn, they have taken themselves on quite a journey since their founding in 2001. On their new album, "Return To Cookie Mountain", they find themselves scaling their own personal mountains to heights that they never seemed to have envisioned for themselves. "Wolf Like Me" is a perfect example of a perfect blend of earth laden lyrics and heaven sent noise. At on point in the song he sings, "My mind has changed, my body's frame but god i like it." And so do I! When I put this album on my body sits forward and strains to understand what I am hearing. One bonus is that they can count David Bowie as one of their biggest fans. He contributed vocals to "Province", the third track on the album. Now if that isn't a seal of approval then I don't know what is!

These Arms Are Snakes

I was attracted to the name at first. These Arms Are Snakes came out with their debut album in 2004 entitled "Oxeneers Or The Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home". This album was full of promise but lacking the retention to focus their chops on the long haul. But with their new album "Easter" they have shown some dramatic growth. With the vocals reigned in a bit, Ryan Frederiksen has shown that he has angered the guitar gods by showing off some of the finest licks this side of the Northwest. Their lastest single is "Horse Girl". Right at about 1:10 they do the best shout out\finger snap you have heard in a while! Plus any video where My Little Pony turn into a Devil Donkey has got to be good!!

These Arms Are Snakes is a Seattle-based post-hardcore quartet currently on Jade Tree Records. The band was formed by members of the bands Botch, Nineironspitfire and Minneapolis-based Kill Sadie, with drummer/producer Chris Common joining after the recording of Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home. They have toured the U.S.A. with such notable bands as Minus the Bear, Underoath, The Blood Brothers, Engine Down, Hot Water Music and Against Me!. Both Minus the Bear and The Blood Brothers have lent members to assist in the recording of Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home.

Lady Sovereign

Ok this one was a toss up for me. At first I was thinking there is no way I am going to like someone that looks like that and raps. But she is from Britian and they do things a bit differently. So this is not your average take on a rap song. This song was named one the 100 best singles of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine. The album, while not everyone's cup o' tea (get it? Cuz she is British?) the album does have a certain quality that keeps you upbeat. Which is why I have now spun the album several times straight through. It never leaves you in that wasteland of leftovers. Every song has a certain punch that keeps you waiting for the next song. And her cockney accent is infectious! Here is the lead single "Love Me or Hate Me" off of her album entitled "Public Warning". Here she warns you that "if you love me then, Thank You! If you hate me then forget you!"

Born on December 19, 1985 as Louise Amanda Harman , she was raised on the Chalk Hill estate in Wembley, NW London. Though she was kicked out of school when she was only 16, she became one of the UK's few white female MCs (In the rap industry, school education is unnecessary, most other succesful mainstream rappers to date didn't graduate high school). She has been cited often as part of the rising British grime scene. Lady Sovereign cites Ms. Dynamite as an influence and has supported The Streets, Obie Trice, Dizzee Rascal and Basement Jaxx on tour.

Coheed and Cambria

Ok meet Coheed and Cambria. These guys take the concept album to the extreme. With three albums out they each follow each other and compound on the basic story. The new album is Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. The story is too complicated to tell here. But here we have the lastest single from the album that is already almost a year old. A new one will be coming out early next year hopefully. So what are you waiting for? A fourth album?!

Coheed and Cambria (sometimes abbreviated to "Coheed", "The 'Heed", or "CO&CA" ("COCA")) is a progressive rock band from Nyack, New York; Woodstock, New York; and Kingston, New York.

Coheed and Cambria has released three studio albums, two live albums, and various special-edition re-releases. Their albums are concept albums, revealing in pieces the plot of an overarching storyline. So far, the band has planned five albums for The Amory Wars, the saga their albums tell the story of. To date, three studio albums have been released: The Second Stage Turbine Blade (2002), In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (2003), and Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness (2005). These albums make up the second, third, and half of the fourth parts of the five-part saga of Coheed and Cambria, respectively. The albums are being released out of sequence; the second part was released first, and the first part will be released last.

Crown City Rockers

I am really liking this band! If you like underground hip hop then the Crown City Rockers are for you. All their beats are infectious, and the lyrics are deep. If you are tired of the gangster, gun toting lyrics of the gangsters out there then this will be a breath of fresh air for you. Music is all about feeling good. Whether it is feeling good about being sad, bad or mad or happy. If it feels good then you will want more of it. Crown City Rockers do just that. This is the video for B-Boy off of their new album called Earthtones. The entire has not one bad song on it.

Crown City Rockers are a five member hip hop band from Boston, Massachusetts. Formerly known as Mission: They relocated to the bay area and then renamed themselves Crown city Rockers. They play old school inflected hip hop music with live instrumentation, citing influences such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, KRS-One and De La Soul.

Check myspace.com/crowncity for the remix of "B-Boy" featuring Planet Asia,Zion I & The Grouch,Chali2na (Jurassic 5) and Mystic.

The Hold Steady

This band grew on me overnight. I got it on a recommendation from a friend. But upon the first listen I didn't get it. For the next two hours I was thinking about Chip's Ahoy and Boston. When I realized what was going on I popped the album back in and took another listen. It is still there.

The Hold Steady are a Brooklyn-based musical group, although the members are from Minneapolis; something that is frequently reflected in the group's lyrics. Frontman Craig Finn was previously vocalist for Twin Cities band Lifter Puller. Their first album Almost Killed Me (2004) was a sleeper hit among music critics, later appearing at #31 in the influential Pazz & Jop listing in New York, New York's Village Voice. Some months later in May 2005, they were the first rock group to grace the Voice's front page in 15 years. The group's second album, Separation Sunday, was released later in the month. The album was a concept album following the story of a girl named Holly (Short for Hallelujah) and her quest to find a balance between Catholicism and Rock and Roll. After Separation Sunday, the band moved from the Frenchkiss Records imprint with their third album Boys and Girls in America (2006) to Vagrant Records.

Amy Winehouse

So your dad comes to you and tells you that you need to get clean. Get off the drugs and stop drinking. Well if you are Amy Winehouse then you turn the encounter into the hit single off your next album. Her album "Back to Black" adds to her sultry sound of "Frank" (her freshmen effort) and brings in the Motown we all loved from the 1960's. She is a little bit Aretha Franklin, a tiny bit of Nina Simone and all Amy Winehouse!

Amy Winehouse (born September 14, 1983) is an English jazz/soul singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Frank (released in 2003) was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and she won an Ivor Novello award in 2004 for her debut single "Stronger Than Me". In 2006, after appearing in the British press for multiple alcohol-related incidents, she released her second album, Back to Black.

List of Demands - Jenny Wilson / Robyn Carlsson

Jenny Wilson and Robyn Carlsson perform Saul Williams' "List Of Demands" on Sweden's SVT2's Musikbyrån. A great cover of an even greater song. But they tackle the song with everything they've got, which in this case is a Casio keyboard and a piana. Throw some hand claps in there and !Presto! You have a great new song...

Hello... I'm Back (to stay)

Ok so lets get this idea of mine off the broken tracks and onto the hip Amtrak dining car! I love sharing music with my friends. Only problem is that my friends (and Wife) hate listening to my new music. Of course it could have nothing to do with the music itself and more so with my approach (playing each track 40 seconds and skipping to the next). I create a music blur that brings to mind the the background of a Looney Tunes cartoon as the characters run.

So with that in mind I decided to go one step furthur. Cater to everyone with a listen as you please attitude. There is so much about music that excited me and so little time. So with that in mind I give you Treyminator.blogspot.com! Enjoy....
